The session
It’s almost four decades since I first encountered the work of Wilfred Bion on behaviours in groups. There has been some overlap, but my experience over this period can be summarised as 30 years “consultant for hire” on leadership, strategy and organisational development; 15 years in Non-Exec // Independent Chair roles and 4 years CEO of a national charity. Having recently been spat out after what a friend described as a “Quixotic” attempt to transform a system steeped in toxicity, I’ve returned to Bion and notice that my understanding, which was previously theoretical, now feels visceral.
This realisation helps me understand why the learning I’ve sought for myself and which has also infused my approach to supporting others has centred around embodied leadership practices, working alongside geniuses such as Evelyn Glennie and Wendy Palmer.
