The nature of talent and potential is changing. Technology – especially AI – is reducing the value of analytical thinking and increasing the value of strategic and conceptual lens. AI is also reducing opportunities for expertise development as it eliminates the repetitive practice that has formed the foundations for the development of higher levels of expertise in the past. In addition, role demands are changing at a rapid pace. What drives success in a role today is likely to be at least 25% different from what drove success last year, with the effect compounded year on year. This means that some of our long-held fundamental assumptions about how to assess and manage talent need to be changed.
